Crowne Plaza Hotel Changi Airport Pros and Cons

I can’t think of any other way of starting this Crowne Plaza Changi Airport pros and cons list other than by saying it’s probably one of the best airport hotels I’ve ever stayed at.

Yeah, it’s expensive. However, its convenience (and attention to detail) is what makes it worth it IMHO.

I promise you won’t be disappointed. Unless you hate paying a lot of money for a hotel room of course. In that case, this is going to be as useful as me handing you a cup of hot coffee in the Sahara Desert.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport suite

Pros and Cons

My experience at this hotel was a good one. I paid for a junior suite, which ended up being a massive apartment-like hotel room. It was totally overkill for a solo traveler such as myself – but I loved every second of it.

Pros

  • It felt more like an apartment than it did a hotel room.
  • It was spotless. Squeaky clean hotel rooms are one of my favorite things in life, and my suite at the Changi Crowne Plaza was one of the cleanest I’ve ever experienced.
  • Access to the Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is excellent. You won’t even have to go outside to reach the main lobby.
  • The decor of the guest rooms is fantastic. It’s an extremely well designed property that feels very high-end.
  • It’s extremely quiet. The bedroom of the suite I was in was far away from the door, so I never heard other guests in the hallway at any point during the night.
  • Noise from departing and arriving aircraft is minimal. You’ll hear them, but it’s not overbearing.
  • The water pressure in the shower is otherworldly. I ain’t never experienced a hot water massage as amazing as I did during my one night stay!

Cons

  • The lobby can get a bit chaotic during peak times. I had to wait about 15 minutes to check in at 5 PM.
  • The over-aggressiveness of the staff in regards to promoting the on-site restaurant was a bit annoying. They tried their damnedest to get me to eat breakfast there, despite me telling me that I wasn’t interested several times.
  • Yeah, it’s a bit expensive. I personally don’t mind paying for the convenience, but it may be a turn off for budget travelers.
  • It’s a very popular (and busy) hotel. It’s crawling with people 24 hours a day seven days a week.
  • Honestly, the bed was a little hard. That says a lot coming from a guy who likes a firm mattress.

Two very good reasons to stay at this hotel

Let’s be real. I could probably come up with at least 20 reasons why you’d want to stay at this property. In the interest of brevity, here are my top two:

1. It’s the closest hotel to the airport (by a long shot)

If you’re looking for the most convenient hotel to the Singapore Changi Airport, the Crown Plaza is your best choice. It’s the only hotel connected directly to the terminal, and it won’t require long drive (or public transportation) to reach.

2. It’s an excellent place to get some work done

The suite that I had was so apartment-like that I was able to crank out a bunch of work in a short amount of time (with no distractions). It was comfortable, extremely quiet, and very cozy. This is a very good hotel for business travelers IMHO.

Two very good reasons not to stay at this hotel

I almost feel dirty for saying bad things about the Crowne Plaza at SIN. it’s that good. However, if I gotta be picky, here’s two things to consider:

1. It won’t be all that difficult to find a cheaper hotel off airport property

Hotels surrounding the Singapore Airport are fairly cheap. Of course, none of them offer the convenience of being connected directly to the airport. But you probably won’t mind if your primary goal is to save as much money as possible.

2. The staff was extremely kind, but I kept feeling like they were trying to get me to purchase upgrades / extras

I don’t know. Maybe it was just the particular night I was there (and maybe those employees don’t work there anymore).

But I’ll tell you this: they just wouldn’t stop trying to get me to pay extra for things like a larger room and a prepaid meal plan from the restaurant. They just wouldn’t let it go, and it was very annoying.
