An afternoon walking around central Taipei

With a checkout time of 12:00 p.m. at the Madison Taipei Hotel, I used the morning to catch up on a bit of work stuff (mostly writing) in the room.

At that point, I had 3 hours to kill before I could check into my next hotel (The Shangri-La far Eastern). Aimlessly walking around the core of the city was my plan.

I started out walking towards Taipei 101. It was hot. Muggy. I felt like such an idiot for wearing long pants and a long sleeve shirt.

This is the map showing the first half of my walk (from the Madison Hotel to Taipei 101). Total time: 26 minutes and 22 seconds. Total distance 1.1 miles. Temperature: way too F’n hot.

I certainly didn’t intend to go up to the observatory at Taipei 101 (because I’ve been there before), but frigid air conditioning was too difficult to resist.

She seems to be daring me to do it.

Never mind that I had already visited the Taipei 101 Tower (and the observation deck) on my first visit back in 2017. It was really cool back then, and I was 100% certain that it would be very cool again.

“There’s my hotel!”

It was 2:00 p.m. by the time that I returned to ground level. I walked in the general direction of the Shangri-La, detouring into small back alleys along the way that looked interesting.

I even recorded a video of the experience:

I arrived at the hotel by 2:45 p.m. and sat in the air conditioned lobby to cool down before checking in at 3.

The rest of the afternoon and evening was pure bliss as I was spoiled rotten by one of the nicest hotel rooms that I’ve ever stayed in.
